Life-GAP

Ane Johannessen was awarded a 12 mill NOK grant through the NRC-program BEDREHELSE for Life-GAP, a project designed to study how air pollution and greenness affect respiratory health over the lifespan and across generations. Life-GAP is based on the large Respiratory Health in Northern Europe study (RHINE), with >20 000 participants, with a 30-year follow-up being conducted in 2020. This cohort will be enriched with registry data (cause of death, birth-, prescription- and hospital data), and with environmental exposure data (greenness, NO2, PM2.5, PM10, O3 and black carbon) assigned to each participant far back in time based on residential address history.

The project has international research cooperation of supreme quality, as well as active user involvement from the Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association. The NRC funding covers fieldwork in three countries, the position as principal investigator, a PhD fellow and a postdoc position. In addition a Life-GAP PhD fellow will be funded by UiB.

Johannessen has also been awarded a 2.5 mill NOK grant through a EU project (VARCITIES) to create a framework for research-based monitoring of health effects of the public green space planned near Store Lungegårdsvann (the Bergen City Beach), in collaboration with the municipality of Bergen.

Life-GAP

Ane Johannessen fikk innvilget 12 mill NOK fra Forskningsrådet (BEDREHELSE programmet) til Life-GAP, et prosjekt designet for å studere hvordan luftforurensning og grønne områder påvirker lungehelse gjennom livsløpet og på tvers av generasjoner. Life-GAP bygger på den store lungehelsestudien Respiratory Health in Northern Europe (RHINE), med > 20 000 deltakere og med en 30-års oppfølging planlagt for 2020. Denne kohorten vil bli beriket med registeropplysninger (dødsårsaks, fødsels-, resept- og sykehus-registre), og med eksponeringsdata (NO2, PM2.5, PM10, O3, svart karbon samt vegetasjonsindeks NDVI) for hver deltaker langt tilbake i tid basert på adressehistorikk.

Prosjektet har et internasjonalt forskningssamarbeid av toppklasse, samt aktiv brukermedvirkning fra Norges Astma- og Allergiforbund. Forskningsrådets finansiering dekker blant annet feltarbeid i tre land, prosjektledelse, en doktorgradsstipendiat og en postdoc-stilling. I tillegg vil en Life-GAP PhD-stipendiat finansieres av UiB.

Johannessen har også fått 2,5 mill NOK gjennom et EU-prosjekt (VARCITIES) til å skape et rammeverk for forskningsbasert monitorering av helseeffekter i forbindelse med det planlagte parkområdet ved Store Lungegårdsvann (Bergen City Beach), i samarbeid med Bergen kommune.
