IGS har i slutten av 2020 fått sin nittende forskningsgruppe. Forskningsgruppe for grønne områder, luftforurensning og helse er forankret på Senter for Internasjonal Helse (SIH), og ledes av førsteamanuensis Ane Johannessen.
Forskningsgruppens visjon er å bidra til et mer bærekraftig samfunn gjennom å skaffe til veie økt kunnskap om hvordan grønne områder og luftforurensning over tid påvirker helse i ulike befolkningsgrupper, og sørge for at denne kunnskapen kommer til nytte både i politiske handlingsplaner og i menneskers hverdagsliv.
Gruppen har et robust økonomisk utgangspunkt, og starter med to store prosjekter som fikk midler i 2019 fra Forskningsrådet og Horizon 2020, for mer info se her.
Etableringen av forskningsgruppe er i tråd med det strategiske området «Globale samfunnsutfordringer» på UiB, ledet av SIH. Gruppen har et internasjonalt fokus, og et fokus på langtids-effekter av både positive og negative eksponeringer. Gjennom å bidra til at FNs bærekraftsmål oppfylles i en internasjonal kontekst kan gruppen gi et reelt bidrag til bedre folkehelse. På sikt vil gruppen også inkludere prosjekter i lav-inntektsland, i samarbeid med forskere på SIH.
Nettsider for forskningsgruppen er opprettet høsten 2020, og vil snarlig bygges ut med innhold. Miljøets første PhD stipendiat disputerte 17 desember: Ingrid Nordeide Kuiper med prosjektet «Effects of air pollution and greenness on asthma and allergy – over time and across generations» (se mer her).
Towards the end of 2020, the IGS gets its nineteenth research group. The research group for greenness, air pollution and health is located at the Centre for International Health (CIH), and is led by associate professor Ane Johannessen.
The vision of this research group is to contribute to a more sustainable society through increasing the knowledge on how greenness and air pollution affects health over time in different population groups and making sure that this knowledge will be made use of in both political action plans and in people’s everyday lives.
The research group has a robust financial starting point, with two large projects that received funding from the Research Council of Norway and Horizon 2020, for more info see here.
The establishment of the research group fits with the strategic area “Global challenges” at UiB, led by CIH. The research group has an international focus, and a focus on long-term effects of both positive and negative exposures. Through contributing to fulfilling the UN sustainable development goals in an international context, the research group can improve public health. In a longer perspective, the group will also include projects in low-income countries in collaboration with CIH researchers.
Webpages for the research group have been established and will soon be filled with relevant content. The first PhD candidate from the group defended her thesis 17th December: Ingrid Nordeide Kuiper with her thesis «Effects of air pollution and greenness on asthma and allergy – over time and across generations».
